Minor Signs (Fitna) Before The Judgment Day

by | Feb 12, 2019

Every Muslim has to believe in Judgement Day and the Last Hour or the Final Hour signs. The Day of Judgement or Qayamat is part of the Belief in Islam. That is why every Prophet cautioned His followers of the Day of Resurrection.

But the knowledge of the Day of Judgement is with Allah alone. However, certain events are going to take place before the last hour. These events are known as the Fitna (Evils) of the Day of Resurrection.

Our Prophet (P.B.U.H), being the Last Prophet and knowing that Doomsday is to come on this very Ummah as well, clearly explained the Major signs and Minor signs before the Qayamat.

When will the Day of Judgement or Qayamat be?

The knowledge of the moment when Qayamat will embark is only kept by Allah Almighty alone.

The Holy Quran states:

“Verily Allah, with Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour” [Luqman: 34]

A Hadith narrated by Imam Muslim:

Angel Jibreel (A.S) came in the guise of man, after asking about Islam, Imaan and Ihsaan, Angel Jibreel (A.S) asked Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) “then tell me about the hour (meaning the last day)”, the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) replied, “The one questioned about it knows no better than the questioner” (Muslim, vol 1, Hadith no.4)

Minor Signs before the Last Hour(Qayamat):

In this post, We are going to discuss 10 Minor signs of the Day of Judgment. We will discuss the rest in the next post; Inshallah. The majority of minor signs of Resurrection Day have appeared while some are occurring, and the rest will appear in the future with significant prominence.

1. Appearance of Ignorance

Narrated by Abdullah (R.A), the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said:

Just before the Hour, there will be days in which knowledge will disappear and ignorance will appear, and there will be much killing”.[Ibn Majah]

2. Afflictions (Fitna) will occur like raindrops

Narrated Usama bin Zaid (R.A) that Once the Prophet (P.B.U.H) stood over one of the high buildings of Medina and then said (to the people),

“Do you see what I see?” They said, “No.” He said, “I see afflictions falling among your houses as rain drops fall.” [Bukhari]

3. Time will pass rapidly Before Qaymat:

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A) that The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said,

“Time will pass rapidly, good deeds will decrease, miserliness will be thrown (in the hearts of the people) afflictions will appear and there will be much ‘Al-Harj.” They said, “O Allah’s Apostle! What is “Al-Harj?” He said, “Killing! Killing!” [Bukhari; Vol.8, Hadith 63]

Narrated Anas ibn Malik (R.A) Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H) said,

“The last hour will not come before time contracts, a year being like a month, a month like a week, a week like a day, a day like an hour, and an hour like the kindling of a fire.” [Tirmidhi]

4. Exposing oneself to the Fitna is a Sign of Qayamat:

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A) Allah’s Apostle (P.B.U.H) said,

“There will be afflictions (in the near future) during which a sitting person will be better than a standing one, and the standing one will be better than the walking one, and the walking one will be better than the running one, and whoever will expose himself to these afflictions, they will destroy him. So whoever can find a place of protection or refuge from them, should take shelter in it.” [Bukhari]

5. Construction of High Buildings is a Sign:

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A) that Allah’s Apostle (P.B.U.H) said,

“The Hour will not be established (1) till two big groups fight each other whereupon there will be a great number of casualties on both sides and they will be following one and the same religious doctrine. (2) till about thirty Dajjals (liars) appear, and each one of them will claim that he is Allah’s Apostle.

(3) till the religious knowledge is taken away (by the death of Religious scholars). (4) earthquakes will increase in number (5) time will pass quickly, (6) afflictions will appear.

(7) Al-Harj, (i.e., killing) will increase, (8) till wealth will be in abundance; so abundant that a wealthy person will worry lest nobody should accept his Zakat, and whenever he will present it to someone, that person (to whom it will be offered) will say, ‘I am not in need of it.

(9) till the people compete with one another in constructing high buildings, (10) till a man when passing by a grave of someone will say, ‘Would that I were in his place’ [Bukhari]

6. Women will increase in number

Noticeably, in many countries, the count of women is already much higher than men, and this ratio trend has started to prevail in all countries as time passes by.

Narrated Anas (R.A) the Prophet (P.B.U.H) said:

“Women will increase in number and men will decrease in number so much so that fifty women will be looked after by one man.” (Bukhari)

7. People will kill each other

These days whenever we open the television or social media, news of some murder, bombing, and massacre pop up in the headlines.

Narrated Hudhayfah(R.A) that The Prophet (P.B.U.H) said,

“The last hour will not come till you kill your leader, fight together with your swords, and your worst ones inherit your worldly goods.”  [Tirmidhi]

8. Wine will be permitted

At-Tabaraani narrated that Sahl ibn Sa’d (R.A) said that Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H) said:

“At the end of time there will be earthquakes, slander, transmutation into animals [or disfigurement, deformity], when stringed instruments and female singers will be widespread, and wine will be permitted.” (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 3665)

9. Muslims will fight with each other

Abu Huraira (R.A) reported from Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H):

“The last Hour will not come until the two parties (of Muslims) confront each other and there is a large-scale massacre amongst them and the claim of both of them is the same.” [Muslim]

10. People will start worshipping Idols

Aisha (R.A) reported:

“I heard Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H) as saying: The (system) of night and day would not end until the people have taken to the worship of Lat and ‘Uzza.” [Muslim]

We have discussed the first ten afflictions. We will discuss the rest in the next post, Inshaa Allah.

May Allah save us from the afflictions that have appeared and from the one which is about to occur. Ameen.
