Siblings can share Group Classes (Family): 2 to 4 children from the same family, one teacher, one-hour sessions, from $70 a month plus $15 a month for each child beyond the first two. Shining Star Classes, for children with ADHD, autism and other learning differences, are a fixed 15 minutes with a specially trained teacher, from $35 a month. Weekend school and mosque classes give children community, and many families across the USA and Canada keep them for exactly that. What a full class rarely gives is time with a teacher: a child may read aloud for only a few minutes, and a mispronounced letter can go uncorrected for weeks.
In a one-on-one online class your child reads for most of the lesson with a teacher listening to every letter, at home, at a time that fits around school and sport. Plenty of families do both: weekend school for community, online classes for steady progress.
What a 30-minute lesson looks like, start to finish
Most children begin with Noorani Qaida, and a typical beginner lesson runs through four stages, adjusted to your child's age and attention span.
Review (5 minutes)
Your child reads back the letters and sounds from last time, so the teacher can spot anything that needs reinforcing before moving on.
Something new (10 minutes)
The teacher introduces the next letters, vowel marks or joining rule, and demonstrates the correct pronunciation for each one.
Guided reading (10 minutes)
Your child reads aloud while the teacher corrects pronunciation and letter recognition in real time.
Practice for next time (5 minutes)
The teacher sets specific pages to practise before the next class, so progress stays steady and builds on itself.
Older children follow the same shape: in Tajweed, a warm-up, a new rule and live correction; in Hifz, revision, a new portion, and cycling back through older sections. With the teacher's and support team's consent, sessions can be recorded for revision.
How progress shows up over the first three months
Month one: settling in. The free trial doubles as an assessment, and the teacher recommends a starting point. The first weeks are about routine as much as reading: the same days, the same teacher, short practice between classes.
Month two: building. Each lesson starts from the last, so gaps show up quickly. Beginners follow the Qaida: letters, then vowel marks, then joining letters into words. Children who already read make fewer repeat mistakes.
Month three: a clear picture. The teacher's progress updates now show what has been covered and what comes next, a good moment to review how many classes a week suit your child. Pace depends on age, starting point and frequency, so we don't promise a timetable.

Ask where teachers trained and whether they teach children. Ours are qualified tutors from Islamic universities in the Arab world, male or female; an Ijazah teacher can be requested for an additional 20%.
