A city of steep streets and winter weather

Sheffield is famously built on hills, and on the edge of the Peak District. In winter that means icy, steep roads and snow that settles on the higher suburbs while the city centre stays clear, which is exactly the kind of evening when a trip to a Quran class gets cancelled.

A lesson at home does not depend on the gritters reaching your road. It starts on time at the desk or the dining table, and the only climb involved is the stairs.

When lessons fall in Sheffield

Taking our 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM Eastern teaching day across the Atlantic, Sheffield students can book from 11:00 AM until 4:30 AM for most of the year.

Every evening is open

After school, after dinner and later still: each of these falls within our teaching day.

Late-morning weekend lessons

Weekend lessons begin from late morning UK time, leaving the early part of Saturday free.

Spring and autumn clock weeks

Britain's clocks change on the last Sundays of March and October, a few weeks out of step with America's, so your lesson may move by an hour for those weeks. Your teacher will confirm it.

Serving Sheffield and beyond

Online Quran classes for families across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield, and Stocksbridge

Lessons travel over the internet rather than up the hills, so Hillsborough, Darnall, Rotherham and Barnsley are all the same distance from a class.

Why families in Sheffield choose us

A Sheffield student can book a lesson any time from 11:00 AM until late at night, UK time, on any day, and never has to face an icy hill to get there. Teaching is one-to-one with a qualified teacher from a team of 100+, female teachers included, for families in Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster, Chesterfield and Stocksbridge. We have been doing this online since 2010, 2,500+ students learn with us today, and your first lesson is a free 30-minute trial.

Dark afternoons and very light evenings

In December the sun sets in Sheffield before four o'clock, so for families who keep the time around Maghrib for prayer, the evening starts while the children are only just home. The hour after Maghrib is then an early, comfortable lesson slot. By late June the sun does not set until after half past nine, and the same slot would be close to bedtime.

Many families who notice this simply keep two lesson times, one for the dark half of the year and one for the light, and switch around the clock changes in late March and late October. The English school holidays, with half-terms in October, February and late May, give three more natural points to review it.

Without a car, getting across Sheffield in the evening means buses or the Supertram, and a class on the other side of the city can mean two changes each way with a child in tow. A thirty-minute lesson becomes a two-hour outing. At home, the same thirty minutes is just thirty minutes.

What Sheffield families ask before enrolling

What happens on a snowy evening?

Nothing changes for an online lesson as long as your power and internet are on. If a storm knocks out your power or internet, contact our support team as soon as you can and they'll review the missed class under our make-up policy.

What times can we book?

Late morning to late night, UK time, every day: 11:00 AM is the first slot for most of the year.

Do you teach in Rotherham and Barnsley?

We do. South Yorkshire towns are no further from an online class than the city centre.

Can my daughter have a woman teacher?

Yes. Female teachers are available for girls and women — just ask when you book your free trial.
