Ramadan is moving into the short days

Ramadan arrives about eleven days earlier each year, and for the next several years it falls in late winter and then midwinter. In Leicester that means short fasts, with iftar in the late afternoon or early evening rather than after nine at night as it was in the summer Ramadans of the last decade.

For a family that wants to keep Quran lessons going through the month, a winter Ramadan is the easy kind. There is a long evening after iftar and before bedtime, and an online lesson can sit inside it without anyone leaving the house on a cold night.

Our teaching day on UK time

Converting our 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM Eastern day for Leicester gives 11:00 AM to 4:30 AM for most of the year, with every afternoon and evening included.

After iftar in a winter Ramadan

With iftar early in the evening during a winter Ramadan, the hours after it fall comfortably inside our teaching day.

School-day afternoons

From the end of the school day onwards, every hour is open, on weekdays and at weekends.

Clock-change weeks

Britain changes its clocks on the last Sundays of March and October, but America changes earlier in spring and a week later in autumn, so for those few weeks the first Leicester slot is an hour earlier.

Serving Leicester and beyond

Online Quran classes for families across Leicester, Loughborough, Oadby, Wigston, Hinckley, and Melton Mowbray

Because each lesson is a live video call, nobody in Leicestershire is further from a class than anyone else. Families in Market Harborough, Coalville and Syston choose from the same teachers and the same hours as families in the city.

Why families in Leicester choose us

Leicester families can book from 11:00 AM until late at night, UK time, 7 days a week, which leaves room for a lesson after school, after iftar in Ramadan or late in the evening. Students learn one-to-one, and families in Loughborough, Oadby, Wigston, Hinckley and Melton Mowbray can ask for one of the female teachers among our 100+. We have taught online since 2010, have 2,500+ students today, and every new family begins with a free 30-minute trial class.

Planning the year around a moving month

Because Ramadan moves through the calendar, it will overlap with different parts of the school year from one year to the next: the February half-term in some years, the Christmas holiday in others. It is worth looking ahead each autumn to see where it lands and adjusting the lesson time before the month begins rather than in its first week.

Outside Ramadan the usual English pattern applies: a September start, half-terms in October, February and late May, two weeks each at Christmas and Easter, and a summer holiday from late July. Leicester sunsets fall before four in December and after half past nine in late June, so it makes sense to review the lesson time when the clocks change.

What Leicester families ask before enrolling

Can lessons continue during Ramadan?

Yes. In a winter Ramadan many families move the lesson to the evening after iftar; in a summer Ramadan, an afternoon slot usually works better.

What hours are available in Leicester?

For most of the year the window opens at 11:00 AM UK time and stays open until late at night, every day.

Do you teach in the county as well as the city?

Yes. Loughborough, Hinckley and Melton Mowbray are as close to a lesson as the city centre, because every class happens on a video call.

Are female teachers available?

Yes. Female teachers are available for girls and women — just ask when you book your free trial.
