Two school calendars in one city

Since 2022, French-speaking schools in Brussels have followed a reformed calendar: the year starts at the end of August, ends in early July, and includes two-week breaks in the autumn and in February. Dutch-speaking schools in the same city still follow the traditional calendar, from early September to the end of June.

For families with children in both systems, or cousins and neighbours in the other one, the holidays often do not line up. A one-on-one online lesson is set to your household, so it does not have to stop and start with either school calendar.

Our hours in Brussels

Belgian time runs six hours ahead of New York for most of the year, so our teaching window in Brussels opens at 12:00 PM and closes at 5:30 AM.

Wednesday afternoons

Belgian primary schools typically finish at midday on Wednesday, leaving the afternoon free for a lesson.

Evenings on school days

After school and after dinner are both inside our teaching day.

Clock-change weeks

Belgium switches to and from summer time on the last Sundays of March and October; America switches earlier and later, so for a few weeks lessons can start an hour earlier in Brussels.

Serving Brussels and beyond

Online Quran classes for families across Brussels, Schaerbeek, Anderlecht, Molenbeek, Ixelles, and Uccle

Lessons happen over video, so Etterbeek, Forest, Saint-Gilles and Vilvoorde are all equally close to a class.

Why families in Brussels choose us

Brussels lessons can be booked from midday to late at night daily, so a class fits a Wednesday afternoon or an after-school slot whichever school calendar the family follows. Schaerbeek, Anderlecht, Molenbeek, Ixelles and Uccle families learn one-to-one with teachers from our team of 100+, and may request a woman teacher. We have been teaching this way since 2010, more than 2,500 students are enrolled today, and Brussels families can begin with a free 30-minute trial class.

Planning around the longer breaks

The reformed French-speaking calendar replaced a short autumn break and a short carnival break with two full weeks each. Two weeks without practice is long enough for a memorization student to lose ground, so it is worth keeping short revision lessons going through them.

Instruction happens in English while the Quran is recited in Arabic, so a pupil from a French- or Dutch-speaking school begins on the same footing as any other beginner. Brussels winters are short on daylight, with sunset well before five in December, and in June the sun does not set until around ten, so the best lesson time tends to change with the season.

Brussels is a city of nineteen communes, and an evening class in another commune can mean a long tram or metro ride with a tired child. An online lesson makes Uccle and Schaerbeek equally close to a teacher.

What Brussels families ask before enrolling

Our children follow different school calendars. Does that matter?

Not at all. Each child's lesson is booked around your family, so neither the French-speaking nor the Dutch-speaking calendar decides it.

Which hours are open in Brussels?

Midday until late at night, Brussels time, every day of the week for most of the year.

Are lessons in French or Dutch?

No. Instruction is in English, and the Quran is read and recited in Arabic.

Are woman teachers available in Brussels?

Yes. Female teachers are available for girls and women — just ask when you book your free trial.
