When Maghrib comes before the end of the school day
In the depths of a Birmingham winter, the sun sets before four in the afternoon. For a family that keeps the time around Maghrib for prayer, that changes the shape of the whole evening: by the time the children are home, Maghrib has already passed and the evening is long and dark.
That makes winter an unusually good season for a regular lesson. The hour after Maghrib, which in summer would not arrive until late at night, falls in the middle of a weekday evening from November to February. An online class can sit right there, with no journey out into the cold.

How our hours fall in UK time
We set our hours on US Eastern Time, 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM, which puts the Birmingham teaching day at 11:00 AM to 4:30 AM for most of the year: late morning, the afternoon and the whole evening.

Every hour from the end of the school day to bedtime falls inside our class hours, on weekdays and at weekends.
Weekend lessons start late morning
On Saturdays and Sundays the first classes are available from late morning, which suits families who keep the early part of the weekend free.
A few weeks a year the gap narrows
The UK and the US change their clocks on different dates, so for a few weeks in March and around late October the gap is four hours instead of five. Your teacher will confirm your slot at each change.

Long summer evenings and the late Isha problem
Summer turns the winter picture upside down. In late June the sun does not set until after half past nine, and Isha comes later still. A lesson planned for "after Maghrib" in June would start close to bedtime, so families who follow that pattern in winter usually move the class to the afternoon or early evening from April onwards.
The English school year adds its own rhythm: a September start, a half-term in late October, two weeks at Christmas, a February half-term, two weeks at Easter, a late-May half-term and a summer break that runs from late July to early September. Each of those is a natural point to adjust the lesson time, and the six-week summer is long enough that a memorization student should keep some revision going through it.
Birmingham is Britain's second-largest city, and its roads converge on the Gravelly Hill Interchange, better known as Spaghetti Junction. A weekday evening class across the city can mean the M6 or the A38 at rush hour; a lesson at home means none of it.
