Booking from Mountain Time
Calgary is two hours behind Toronto, three behind the eastern seaboard's later evening, and an hour ahead of Vancouver. For a live one-to-one class that arithmetic is not an obstacle — nothing here is scheduled to a broadcast time — but it does decide which hours are easy to get and which are contested.
The short version is that Mountain Time is well placed. A seven o'clock evening slot in Calgary falls outside the busiest windows in both directions, so families here are more likely to get their first choice of time than families booking the same hour in Ontario.

Working with the offset rather than around it
Three patterns come up repeatedly with Calgary families.
Evenings are genuinely open
The mid-evening block is the single most requested slot almost everywhere, and Calgary's mid-evening does not collide with anyone else's. Short-notice bookings are usually possible.
Siblings can run back to back
Where availability is tight, consecutive slots are the first thing to go. Here they are usually straightforward, which matters if you are arranging lessons for two or three children around one dinner hour.
Alberta's clock changes on the standard dates
Calgary moves to daylight saving in March and back in November, in step with the rest of North America. A slot agreed against a North American tutor will not drift; against Europe it can move for a fortnight each spring and autumn.
Taught by qualified Quran teachers
- Native Arabic speakers with detailed knowledge of Makhraj and Tajweed, with Ijazah-certified tutors available at a higher rate.
- Experienced in delivering a structured Islamic curriculum.
- A choice of male and female tutors to suit your preference.
- A Quran completion certificate is awarded when you finish your course.

The Alberta school year, and where it costs you
Alberta runs from just after Labour Day to the end of June, with a winter break around Christmas and a shorter one near Easter. It is a conventional shape, and none of the breaks is long enough to justify stopping outright.
What they are long enough for is drift. Recitation tolerates a fortnight off. Memorisation does not — a Hifz student returning in January after two clear weeks generally spends the first two or three sessions recovering rather than advancing, which is a month of progress spent on ground already covered.
The cheap fix is to keep something small running across the break. Fifteen or twenty minutes, three times a week, no new material. It costs very little and removes almost all of the recovery.
June is the other point to plan for. End-of-year activity compresses the evenings, and the families who decide in May what their summer schedule will be are the ones who still have a schedule in July.
What families in Calgary ask before enrolling
Are evening classes hard to book from Alberta?
Less so than from most places. Mountain Time evenings sit outside the busiest windows on both sides of the continent, so first-choice slots are usually available, often at short notice.
Can you teach two children one after the other?
Yes, and Calgary is one of the easier places to arrange it. Consecutive slots depend on tutor availability around your preferred hour, and that hour is not heavily contested here.
Do we need to change anything when the clocks go forward?
Not if your tutor is also in North America — both sides move on the same date. If they are not, the slot can shift by an hour for a week or two in March and again in the autumn. It is worth a quick confirmation at each changeover.
Do you only serve Calgary itself?
No. Students join from Calgary, Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere and Okotoks, and from anywhere else in Alberta. There is no travel involved, so there is no catchment.
Is it better to pause for the summer or keep going?
For recitation either works. For Hifz, a reduced summer schedule is much easier than a September restart — the students who stop entirely tend to return a term behind where they left off.
