One of the earliest winter sunsets of any major US city

Boston sits near the eastern edge of the Eastern time zone, and in December the sun sets soon after four in the afternoon. For families who keep the time around Maghrib for prayer, that means the evening starts while the children are barely home from school.

It also means the hour after Maghrib, which in summer does not arrive until after eight, falls in the late afternoon through the winter. That is a natural place for a lesson, and an online class can take it without anyone going back out into the cold and the dark.

Eastern Time, exactly as written

Boston runs on Eastern Time, so our class hours need no conversion: 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM, seven days a week.

Early and late are both open

Classes run from 6:00 AM, before school or work, until 11:30 PM, for adults who study once the house is quiet.

Winter afternoons after Maghrib

From November to February, the hour after Maghrib falls between about four and five o'clock, an easy slot for younger children.

Snow days carry on

When snow closes schools, an online class does not need the roads, as long as the power and internet stay on.

February vacation, April vacation and a short summer

Most Massachusetts districts follow a calendar that surprises families from elsewhere. The year usually starts around the beginning of September and runs to mid or late June, with a winter vacation week in February and a spring vacation week in April, alongside Thanksgiving and the December holidays.

Two separate vacation weeks in the second half of the year are good news for a memorization student, because each is a chance to add revision sessions rather than lose ground. The summer is shorter than in many states, so an intensive plan for July and August needs to start promptly.

Winter weather is the other variable. Snow days can close schools at short notice, but a class held at home is unaffected as long as the power and internet are on. If a storm knocks out your power or internet, contact our support team as soon as you can and they'll review the missed class under our make-up policy.

Questions Boston families ask

What are your class hours in Boston?

Boston keeps Eastern Time, so it is simply 6:00 AM to 11:30 PM, seven days a week.

Can lessons continue on snow days?

Yes, if your power and internet are working. If a storm knocks out your power or internet, contact our support team as soon as you can and they'll review the missed class under our make-up policy.

Should we use the February and April vacations?

They are a good time for extra revision, especially for memorization. If you would like more classes that week, ask our support team what is possible with your plan and teacher.

Do you teach in Cambridge and the suburbs?

Yes. Classes are online, so students across Greater Boston have the same teachers and hours.
