Our hours in Berlin
On Berlin's clock, our Eastern-time teaching day (6:00 AM to 11:30 PM) opens at noon and runs until 5:30 AM for most of the year.
Winter evenings after Maghrib
From November to February, Maghrib comes in the late afternoon, and the hour after it is inside our teaching day.
Afternoons in summer
With sunset after half past nine in June, an afternoon lesson is the comfortable choice.
A few odd weeks a year
For a couple of weeks in March, and one around the end of October, Germany and the US are only five hours apart, and the first Berlin slot moves to 11:00 AM.

Berlin's holidays and the winter routine
Berlin sets its own school holidays, like each German state, with autumn holidays in October, a Christmas break, short winter holidays in early February, Easter holidays and a summer break of about six weeks whose dates rotate from year to year.
Winter is when an at-home lesson matters most. When it is dark before four and cold enough that nobody wants to go out again, a lesson that starts at the desk keeps the routine going. The summer, with its late sunsets and long holiday, needs a different plan: a few short lessons a week in the afternoon keep memorized work fresh until school starts again.
Berlin's U-Bahn and S-Bahn make the city easy to cross, but an evening class still means a journey there and back with a child, often in the cold and the dark. A lesson at the desk takes thirty minutes; the same lesson across the city takes most of the evening.
