Introduction

Finding a moment of tranquility can be challenging in the hustle and bustle of our daily lives. Sleep, often taken for granted, can sometimes elude us due to stress, anxiety, or restlessness. But what if we told you there’s a simple yet powerful solution to ensure a peaceful night’s sleep that ensures you are protected from evil and keeps you close to Allah. Today, we will explore this practice and its benefits and provide you with answers to common questions.

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had a nightly routine before sleep, documented in various hadiths. This article will explore these practices, allowing you to draw inspiration from the Prophet’s way of life.

Dua for Sleeping#1

Transliteration: Allahumma bismika amootu wa ahyaa.

English Translation: O Allah, with Your name, I die and live.

This dua is a simple supplication expressing the reliance on Allah’s name and seeking His protection and guidance during sleep and wakefulness.

Dua for Sleeping#2

Transliteration: Bismika rabbee wadaAAtu janbee wabika arfaAAuh, fa-in amsakta nafsee farhamha, wa-in arsaltaha fahfathha bima tahfathu bihi AAibadakas-saliheen.

English Translation: In Your name, my Lord, I lay down my side, and in Your name, I lift it up. If You take my soul, have mercy on it, and if You return it, protect it as You protect Your righteous servants.

Dua for Sleeping#3

English Translation: Allah! There is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth.

Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

Dua for Sleeping #4

Transliteration: آmana alrrasoolu bimā unzila ilayhi min rabbihī waalmu’minūna kullun āmana billāhi wamalā’ikatihi wakutubihī warusulihī lā nufarriqu bayna aḥadin min rusulihī waqālū sami’nā wa-aṭa’nā ghufrānaka rabbanā wa-ilayka almasīr Lā yukallifu Allāhu nafsan illā wus’ahā lahā mā kasabat waʿalayhā maktasabat rabbanā lā tu’ākhidhnā in nasi’nā aw akhta’nā rabbanā walā taḥmil ʿalaynā iṣran kamā ḥamaltahu ʿalā allaḏīna min qablinā rabbanā walā tuḥammiḏnā mā lā ṭāqata lanā bihī waʿfu ʿannā waighfir lanā wairḥamnā anta mawlānā faanṣurnā ʿalā alqawmi alkāfirīn

English Translation: The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.”

Allah does not burden a soul beyond that it can bear. It will have [the consequence of] what [good] it has gained, and it will bear [the consequence of] what [evil] it has earned. Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. Our Lord, and lay not upon us a burden like that which You laid upon those before us. Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear. And pardon us; and forgive us; and have mercy upon us. You are our protector, so give us victory over the disbelieving people.
