One city, two school calendars
Ottawa is the only major Canadian city where the school year genuinely depends on which side of a river you live on. Families in Kanata, Nepean and Orleans follow Ontario's calendar. Families a few minutes away in Gatineau follow Quebec's.
For most purposes that is trivia. For arranging a recurring class across a household, or for two families trying to share a tutor's consecutive slots, it is the detail that quietly breaks the plan — because the two provinces do not take their spring break in the same week.

Where the two calendars part company
The differences are small in number and large in effect.
Spring break falls in different weeks
Quebec's break comes at the start of March; Ontario's falls in the middle of the month. A household with children on both sides of the river, or a tutor slot shared between two families, is dealing with two separate weeks off rather than one.
The end of June differs too
Quebec's year finishes around the Saint-Jean-Baptiste holiday; Ontario runs to the end of the month. The result is a week where one half of the city has stopped and the other has not.
The clock, at least, is shared
Both sides keep Eastern Time and change on the same dates, so there is no offset to manage within the region — only the calendar.

Online Quran classes for families across Ottawa, Gatineau, Kanata, Nepean, and Orleans
Because every class is held live over video, there's no commute and no fixed classroom location -- students join from Ottawa, Gatineau, Kanata, Nepean, and Orleans on a schedule built around Eastern Time, with the same qualified, native Arabic-speaking tutors available to every family regardless of neighbourhood.
Making the two-calendar problem go away
The straightforward answer is to stop treating the school break as a reason to stop the lesson. A week off school is not a week in which memorisation holds — it is a week in which it loosens, and the difference between a student who kept twenty minutes running across the break and one who did not is visible in the first session back.
So rather than pausing for whichever break applies to you, the pattern that works in Ottawa is to keep a reduced schedule through both March weeks. Nothing new, just revision. It removes the coordination problem entirely, because there is no longer anything to coordinate.
The same logic covers the end-of-June mismatch. A light July is easier to maintain than a September restart, and it means a family in Gatineau and a family in Nepean can hold neighbouring slots all year without either of them having to move.
For families who do want a genuine break, the useful question is not how long but when. A fortnight in August costs far less than a fortnight in March, because nothing else is competing for attention in August.
What families in Ottawa ask before enrolling
We are in Gatineau. Does that change anything?
Only the calendar, not the class. You keep the same time zone as the rest of the region, so nothing about scheduling changes — but your school breaks fall in different weeks from Ontario's, which is worth flagging when you set up a recurring slot.
Can two families share consecutive slots if their breaks differ?
Yes, and it is easier if neither family stops completely. A reduced schedule across both March weeks keeps both slots held and removes the need to coordinate anything.
Do you teach in French?
Instruction is in English, with Quranic Arabic taught directly. Families in French-language schooling on either side of the river study on the same terms as everyone else.
Which parts of the region do you cover?
All of it. Students join from Ottawa, Gatineau, Kanata, Nepean and Orleans, and the arrangement is identical wherever you are.
Is it worth studying through the spring break at all?
For recitation it is optional. For Hifz it is close to essential — a week is long enough for memorised passages to loosen, and recovering them costs more time than keeping them would have.
How early can we book a class on a school morning?
Early enough to be useful. Because there is no travel at either end, a lesson can sit in a half hour before school that would be far too short to be worth it for an in-person class across the city.
