Quebec keeps its own calendar
Montreal runs on Eastern Time like Toronto, but almost nothing else about its school year matches Ontario's. Quebec takes its spring break at the beginning of March rather than the middle, finishes the year around the Saint-Jean-Baptiste holiday in late June rather than at the end of the month, and organises schooling around a language regime that has no equivalent elsewhere in the country.
For arranging a weekly class none of that is an obstacle. It is simply a different set of dates to plan against, and the families who plan against them keep their schedules intact where families who assume the Ontario calendar do not.

The dates that matter here
La relâche comes early
Quebec's spring break falls at the start of March. Anyone coordinating with relatives or a shared tutor slot in Ontario is working a fortnight out of step.
The year ends sooner
With the year winding up around the June holiday, Montreal students are free while much of the country is still in school — which makes late June an unusually good window for intensive work, if you want one.
Language is not a barrier here
Instruction is in English and Quranic Arabic is taught directly, which means a child in French-language schooling is starting from the same place as any other beginner rather than translating twice.
Taught by qualified Quran teachers
- Native Arabic speakers with detailed knowledge of Makhraj and Tajweed, with Ijazah-certified tutors available at a higher rate.
- Experienced in delivering a structured Islamic curriculum.
- A choice of male and female tutors to suit your preference.
- A Quran completion certificate is awarded when you finish your course.

Using a Montreal winter well
At forty-five degrees north the winter afternoons are short, and Montreal's are made shorter in practice by weather that regularly makes evening travel unattractive. This is the season where studying from home stops being a convenience and becomes the reason the schedule survives.
The measurable difference is attendance in January and February. A class with no journey attached is not cancelled by snow, and eight uninterrupted winter weeks is roughly the margin between a student who is ahead by the following autumn and one who is not.
What does need managing is concentration rather than logistics. Dark afternoons make a late lesson harder work, and moving it forward by half an hour from November through February usually does more for progress than adding time to it would.
The early spring break is the other thing to plan for. It is one week, which is short enough that recitation holds without intervention — but for a student in the middle of memorisation, keeping fifteen minutes of revision running across it removes almost all of the recovery cost.
What families in Montreal ask before enrolling
Our children are in French-language schools. Does that matter?
Not for the class. Teaching is in English and the Quranic Arabic is taught directly rather than through a second language, so the starting point is the same as for any beginner.
When is Quebec's spring break?
At the beginning of March, roughly a fortnight before Ontario's. It is worth flagging if you are coordinating with family or a shared slot elsewhere in the country.
Does the earlier end of the school year help?
It can. Montreal students are often free while much of North America is still in school, which makes late June a good window for concentrated work if you want to use it.
Which parts of the region do you cover?
Students join from Montreal, Laval, Longueuil, Brossard and Terrebonne, and anywhere else in Quebec, on the same terms.
Is winter a reason to pause?
The opposite, in practice. Winter is when a class with no journey attached is worth the most — it is the season in-person attendance drops and online attendance does not.
Should the lesson time change between summer and winter?
Many Montreal families move it forward by half an hour from November and back again in March. The reason is attention rather than daylight as such — a late lesson on a dark February afternoon is harder work than the same lesson in May.
Can we arrange lessons around Ramadan?
Yes, and most families do. Lessons usually shorten and move to after taraweeh for the month, then return to the normal pattern afterwards.
