Ontario is wide enough to need two clocks

Most of Ontario keeps Eastern Time, and most descriptions of the province leave it there. But the northwest — beyond roughly the ninetieth meridian, around Kenora and the Rainy River district — runs on Central Time instead.

That is not a technicality for the families who live there. It means a household in northwestern Ontario booking a lesson against a relative in Toronto is an hour apart within the same province, and it means any advice written for “Ontario time” is wrong for part of Ontario.

The province is simply very large. From Ottawa to the Manitoba border is well over fifteen hundred kilometres, and sunset moves a long way across that distance even within a single zone.

What the province's width changes

Two time zones

Eastern across the great majority, Central in the northwest. Say your city when a slot is agreed rather than relying on “Ontario time”.

Sunset moves west even within Eastern

Maghrib in Windsor and Maghrib in Ottawa are not the same on the same clock. Use a local prayer timetable rather than a provincial one.

The calendar, at least, is shared

The Ontario school year is province-wide: back after Labour Day, out at the end of June, with one week of March Break.

Serving Ontario and beyond

Online Quran classes for families across Ontario, including Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, and Hamilton

Because every class is held live over video, there's no commute and no fixed classroom location -- students join from Ontario, including Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, and Hamilton on a schedule built around Eastern Time, with the same qualified, native Arabic-speaking tutors available to every family regardless of neighbourhood.

Northern Ontario, and the case for studying at home

The population is concentrated in the south, but a great deal of Ontario is not, and for families in the north the obstacle to regular Quran study has always been distance rather than interest. The nearest qualified teacher may be several hours away or may not exist at all, and winter makes that distance considerably worse for months at a time.

For those households the choice is not between online and in-person. It is between online and nothing, and that changes what matters. Convenience is beside the point; what counts is whether the teaching is good and whether the tutor will still be there in a year.

Continuity is therefore the thing to protect. Changing teacher partway through memorisation costs more than almost any scheduling inconvenience, which is why the free trial is worth using properly rather than treating as a formality — it exists to settle fit before anything depends on it.

In the south the calculation is different but the conclusion is similar. The obstacle there is traffic rather than distance, and the effect is the same: a thirty-minute lesson that costs two hours is one that gets abandoned by November. Removing the journey lets the class sit where it belongs, several short sessions a week rather than one long one at the weekend.

Students join from Toronto, Ottawa, Mississauga, Hamilton and across the north on identical terms.

What families in Ontario ask before enrolling

Is all of Ontario on Eastern Time?

No. The northwest, around Kenora and the Rainy River district, keeps Central Time. Naming your city when a slot is agreed avoids an hour's confusion.

Do prayer times vary much across the province?

Yes, more than most people expect. Ontario is wide enough that sunset differs noticeably between Windsor and Ottawa on the same clock, quite apart from the second time zone.

We are several hours from the nearest city. Does that limit anything?

No. The class is held live over video, so distance has no bearing on which tutors are available or what can be taught.

When is the Ontario school year?

Back after Labour Day, finishing at the end of June, with one week of March Break. That is consistent province-wide, unlike the time zones.

Which parts of Ontario do you cover?

All of it, north and south. There is no catchment area because there is no travel.

Is a single long weekly lesson enough?

It works for general recitation and poorly for memorisation. Retention depends far more on how often material is revisited than on how long each sitting runs, which is why we suggest shorter sessions more often.

Can we request a female tutor?

Yes, and it is a routine request. Because the choice is not limited to who is locally reachable, it can almost always be met.
