The long break falls at the wrong end of the year
Victoria's school year runs in four terms from late January to the middle of December, which means the long holiday sits across December and January — combining the summer break and the Christmas period into a single stretch of six weeks or more.
That is a much longer continuous gap than students in the northern hemisphere ever face, and it is the single most important thing to plan for in a Melbourne Quran schedule. Six weeks is well past the point at which memorised material loosens; it is long enough for a student to arrive in February having genuinely lost a portion of what they had in November.

How families handle the summer gap
Three approaches work, and one does not.
Light and continuous
Fifteen or twenty minutes of revision, three times a week, with nothing new introduced. The cheapest option and the one that preserves the most.
A deliberate intensive
For students who want to move rather than merely hold, the six weeks are the best uninterrupted run available all year. Nothing competes with it.
A short clean break, then resume
Two or three weeks off, then back before school returns. Workable, and much better than six.

Daylight saving, and an hour that catches people out
Victoria observes daylight saving from October to April, moving Melbourne from ten hours ahead of UTC to eleven. Queensland does not. For most of the southern summer, therefore, Melbourne and Brisbane are an hour apart despite both being described as eastern Australian time — and a family that has moved between the two states, or that shares a tutor slot with relatives up north, will meet this at least twice a year.
The same applies to any arrangement held against the northern hemisphere. Australia shifts its clocks in the opposite season to Europe and North America, so twice a year the gap between Melbourne and London changes by two hours rather than one, in a single step.
None of this is difficult to manage; it is simply easy to forget. The habit worth forming is to confirm the standing time in early April and again in early October, which are the two changeovers, rather than discovering the shift when somebody misses a lesson.
Students join from Melbourne, Geelong, Dandenong, Frankston and Ballarat on identical terms, all on the same clock.
What families in Melbourne ask before enrolling
What should we do over the December-January break?
Something, ideally. Six weeks is long enough to lose real ground in memorisation. A light revision schedule costs very little; a full intensive is the other good option if the student wants to move rather than hold.
Does daylight saving change our lesson time?
It can, if your tutor is outside Victoria. Melbourne shifts in October and April, and the northern hemisphere shifts in the opposite months, so the gap can change by two hours at once. Confirming the slot at both changeovers avoids surprises.
Why is Brisbane an hour different in summer?
Because Queensland does not observe daylight saving and Victoria does. For roughly half the year the two are an hour apart despite sharing a time-zone name.
When does the Victorian school year start?
Late January, in four terms running to mid-December. It is worth setting the autumn — that is, the February — schedule before the break rather than after it.
Which areas do you cover?
Melbourne, Geelong, Dandenong, Frankston, Ballarat and anywhere else in the state. There is no catchment area.
How many lessons a week suit a beginner?
Three or four short ones rather than one or two long ones. Tajweed depends on frequent correction, and a full week between lessons is long enough for a mistake to settle in as a habit.
Can siblings share consecutive slots?
Yes, and it is the usual arrangement for larger households. One protected evening is far easier to keep across four terms than several scattered commitments.
