An August start and a long spring term

Chicago's public schools return in the middle of August, several weeks before much of the country. Families moving here from a post-Labor Day state are routinely caught out by it, and so are schedules built around the assumption that summer runs to September.

The practical consequence is that the useful summer window here is shorter than it looks. If you intend to use the break for concentrated study, it effectively ends in the first week of August rather than the last.

Planning around the Chicago calendar

Summer is shorter than you think

Two months, not three. An intensive planned for “the summer” needs to start in June to be finished before school returns.

The spring stretch is long

From the new year to the end of the school year there is little in the way of a substantial break. That is good for continuity and hard on motivation, and it is the period when schedules most often quietly erode.

Central Time helps

Chicago overlaps with both coasts and part of the European day, so the range of workable hours is wide and preferred slots are usually available.

Our tutors

Taught by qualified Quran teachers

  • Native Arabic speakers with detailed knowledge of Makhraj and Tajweed, with Ijazah-certified tutors available at a higher rate.
  • Experienced in delivering a structured Islamic curriculum.
  • A choice of male and female tutors to suit your preference.
  • A Quran completion certificate is awarded when you finish your course.
Serving Chicago and beyond

Online Quran classes for families across Chicago, Naperville, Evanston, Aurora, and Schaumburg

Because every class is held live over video, there's no commute and no fixed classroom location -- students join from Chicago, Naperville, Evanston, Aurora, and Schaumburg on a schedule built around Central Time, with the same qualified, native Arabic-speaking tutors available to every family regardless of neighbourhood.

Getting through the long second half

The stretch between January and June is the real test of a Chicago schedule. There is no long break to reset around, the weather is at its least encouraging for several months of it, and the novelty of a new arrangement has worn off by February.

Two things make the difference. The first is keeping lessons short enough that they are never the hardest thing in the day — twenty-five or thirty minutes several times a week rather than an hour that has to be steeled for. The second is having something to aim at within the stretch rather than beyond it: a specific surah, a defined section of Qaida, a measurable target that arrives in March rather than in July.

The winter itself is less of an obstacle than families expect, precisely because nothing has to be driven anywhere. A class held at the kitchen table is unaffected by lake-effect snow, and the eight or nine weeks that would otherwise be lost to cancelled evenings simply are not lost.

Students join from Chicago, Naperville, Evanston, Aurora and Schaumburg without any difference in availability, since nothing about the arrangement depends on distance from the city.

What families in Chicago ask before enrolling

When does the school year start here?

Chicago Public Schools return in mid-August, earlier than much of the country. If you are planning summer study, count on two months rather than three.

How do we keep momentum through the spring?

Short lessons and a target inside the term rather than beyond it. The January-to-June stretch has no natural reset, so the motivation has to be built in.

Does winter weather interrupt classes?

No. There is no travel involved, which is why winter attendance is usually the clearest advantage families notice.

Is Central Time convenient for scheduling?

Yes — it overlaps with both coasts and with part of the European day, so there is a wide band of hours that genuinely work.

Which suburbs do you cover?

All of them. Naperville, Evanston, Aurora, Schaumburg and the city itself are identical in terms of availability and tutors.

What is a realistic target for a first year?

It depends entirely on the starting point and the frequency, which is why we would rather set one after the trial than advertise a number beforehand. What can be said generally is that regularity predicts progress far better than lesson length does.

Can we change tutors if it is not working?

Yes. Fit matters more than most things in one-to-one teaching, and a mismatch is worth correcting early rather than persevering with.

Do lessons run during Ramadan?

Most families keep them going but shorten them and move them later, usually to after taraweeh. Those hours book up well in advance.
