Answering the adhan and dua after adhan has great rewards. There are a lot of hadiths regarding it.

How to answer the Adhan,

Narrated by Abu Said Al-Khudri:

Allah’s Apostle said, “Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Mu’adhdhin is saying

(Sahih Bukhari, Book #011, Hadith #0585)Narrated by ‘Isa bin Talha: that he had heard Muawiya repeating the words of Adhan up to “Wa ash-hadu Anna Muhammadan Rasulul-lah (and I testify that Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle.)”

(Sahih Bukhari, Book #011, Hadith #0586)Narrated by Yahya as above and added. “Some of my companions told me that Hisham had said. “When the Mu’adhdhin said, “Haiya alas-sala(t) (come for the prayer).”

Answering The Adhan:

Muawiya said, “La hawla wala quwata illa billah. (There is neither might nor any power except with Allah)” and added, “We heard your Prophet saying the same.”

(Sahih Bukhari, Book #011, Hadith #0587)‘Abdullah b. Amr b. al-As reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying:

“When you hear the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me. For everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah.

Then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me. Which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants. And I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.”

(Sahih Muslim, Book #004, Hadith #0747)

Narrated by Jabir bin ‘Abdullah: Allah’s Apostle said, “Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, ‘Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-d-da’ watit-tammati was-salatil qa’imati, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilata, wab’ athhu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa’ adtahu.

(O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (of not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established.

Kindly give Muhammad the right of intercession and superiority and send him (on the Day of Judgment) to the best and the highest place in Paradise which You promised him)’, then intercession for me will be permitted for him on the Day of Resurrection).”

(Sahih Bukhari, Book #011, Hadith #0588)

Narrated by Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle said, “If the people knew the reward for pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in congregational prayers).

And found no other way to get that except by drawing lots they would draw lots.

If they knew the reward of the Zuhr prayer (in the early moments of its stated time) they would race for it (go early).

And if they knew the reward of ‘Isha’ and Fajr (morning) prayers in congregation, they would come to offer them even if they had to crawl.” (Sahih Bukhari, Book #011, Hadith #0589).

Supplications During Adhan:

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik: “The supplication made between the adhan and the iqamah is not rejected.” (Sunan Abu Dawud, Book #2, Hadith #0521)

Abdullah b. Mughaffal reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: “there is between the two calls (adhan and Iqama) a prayer.

And he mentioned it three times, and the third time he said: This applies to those who wish to do it.” (Sahih Muslim, Book #004, Hadith #1822)

However, Abu Sha’tha’ reported: “While we were sitting with Abu Huraira in a mosque a man went out of the mosque after the call to prayer had been announced.

A man stood up in the mosque and set off) Abu Huraira’s eyes followed him till he went out of the mosque. Upon this Abu Huraira said: This man has disobeyed Abul- Qasim (Muhammad) (may peace be upon him).”

(Sahih Muslim, Book #004, Hadith #1377)

Dua After Adhan:

Here is dua after adhan.

Jabir ibn Abdullah narrates that the messenger of Allah, Allah send peace and salutations upon him said, whoever recites the following when he hears the call (to prayer, i.e. after the Adhan) then my intercession for him becomes binding on the day of resurrection.

Oh, Allah! Lord of this perfect call and this prayer to be established, grant Muhammad Al-wasilah (a high and special place in Jannah) and Al-fadheelah (a rank above the rest of creation) and raise him to a praised platform which you have promised him.
