The status of women in Islam is very high and respected. In Islam, they have an honored position. Along with legal and civil rights, it has special respect, love, and affection for woman. Now a day’s, people think of women’s liberation. By the 20th century, in the west instead of women’s liberation started when ALLAH revealed women’s liberation to the prophet (PBUH). Our religion guarantees every woman certain duties and rights. In our religion, they are recognized as equal partners in the procreation of humankind. As Man is the father, the woman is the mother, and both are essential aspects of life. So they have equal rights and share in every aspect of life. So, fourteen centuries ago, Islam declared men and women equally responsible to God in glorifying and worshiping him.

Status of Women in the Quran:

Allah says

“O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allāh and the wombs through whom you ask one another. Indeed Allāh is ever, over you, an Observer.”

(AlQuran 4:1)

Islam gives equal importance and rights to women in every matter of life. Prophet (PBUH) said:

“Seeking knowledge is a mandate for every Muslim (male and female).”

Our religion gives a woman freedom of choice and expression. ISLAM Also gives equal economic rights to women. They are entitled to receive marital status gifts and to keep properties and financial gain for their security. Islam states that it is not the duty of woman to spend a penny on the household. Islam also addressed the rights of wives very beautifully. It is stated in Islam that:

“And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves that you may live in tranquility with them, and He had put love and mercy between you; Verily, in that are signs for people who reflect.”

So after seeing this, we can easily understand that Islam put men and women on one scale and declared equal rights. Prophet (PBUH) has advised his companions to treat their wives with great love and respect. Our Prophet (PBUH) exemplifies how a husband should treat his wife.

Prophet (SAW) said About Women:

The best among you is he, who has the best manners, and the one who is good-mannered is he, who is good and nice to his wife.”

Islam also declared a beautiful status to daughters if we see in our prophet life, then he showed exemplary love and affection for his daughter. Someone asked Hazrat Ayesha (RA) who was loved most by the prophet (PBUH) she replied that Hazrat Fatima (r.a).

Islam gives great respect to the mother as well. As it is stated in Islam that:

وَٱللَّهُ أَخْرَجَكُم مِّنۢ بُطُونِ أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْ لَا تَعْلَمُونَ شَيْـًٔا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَٱلْأَبْصَٰرَ وَٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةَ ۙ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

Allah brought you forth from the wombs of your mothers when you knew nothing, and gave you ears and eyes and hearts that you may employ them beneficently.”

(AlQuran 16:78)

Once, a man accepted Islam, but his mother did not accept Islam .his mother asked him how his prophet (PBUH) treated his mother, and he replied that he declared to treat his mother with love and great respect. But still, his mother insisted on giving up Islam and went on a hunger strike. He went to Prophet (PBUH) and submitted to him his story. Prophet (PBUH) advised him that both are equally important to keep your faith and feed the mother. The man had to listen to his mother’s taunts and harsh language, yet he continued to attend to his mother with respect and love, and kindness and remained steadfast on Islam at the same time.

The Beauty of Islam:

So this is the beauty of Islam. Unlike other religions, Islam gave woman a distinct status and rights. It is stated that women are equal to men in getting rewards from Allah (SWT) for their virtues like a man. It is stated in Islam that:

“The believers, men, and women are friends of one another. They enjoin good, forbid evil, observe Prayer, pay the Zakat, and obey Allah and His Messenger. It is these on whom Allah will have mercy. Surely, Allah is Mighty, Wise. Allah has promised the believers, men and women, Gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide, delightful dwelling places in Gardens of Eternity, and the pleasure of Allah, which is the greatest bounty of all. That is the supreme triumph.”
