People often spend their entire lives striving to achieve worldly success, dedicating their childhood, teenage years, and young energy to building a future they hope will sustain them in later years. These “golden years” of youth are marked by boundless energy, big dreams, and an unstoppable drive. It’s a time when people feel invincible, brimming with ideas, ambitions, and the courage to take on the world. This is young Time—the period of life we never forget and constantly reminisce about.
Youth Time: A Precious Gift and a Divine Test
In our youth, we’re strong, imaginative, fearless, and ready to explore life to its fullest. But there’s a catch: with each passing second, these precious years fade away. Youth is a blessing, but it’s also a test. In a powerful hadith, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that on the Day of Judgment, each person will be questioned about four things, and one of those questions will be about how we spent our youth.
So, if this much is at stake, where will we choose to invest these vibrant years? Allah has given us a golden opportunity—a chance to achieve both success in this world and eternal rewards in the Hereafter.
The Reward of Spending Youth in Worship
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also said that on the Day of Judgment, there will be seven types of people who will be granted shade under Allah’s throne—a privilege when there will be no other shade. Among these blessed groups will be young people who spent their young age in the worship and remembrance of Allah (SWT). Imagine, at a time when most people are using their energy for fleeting pleasures, those who dedicate themselves to Allah will be honored on that day.
The Story of the Youngsters of Surah Kahf
The Quran provides a beautiful example of the power and reward for those who devote their young age to Allah. In Surah Kahf, we read about a group of young men who left behind everything they knew for the sake of Allah. They sought refuge in a cave, trusting only in Allah, and He protected them in miraculous ways. Allah even made the sun adjust its course to provide them with comfort:
“And you might have seen the sun, when it rose, declining to the right from their Cave, and when it set, turning away from them to the left, while they lay in the midst of the Cave. That is one of the signs of Allah. He whom Allah guides is rightly guided; but he whom He leaves astray, you will find no protector to guide him.”
— (Quran, 18:17)
Allah supported these youth in ways that defied natural laws, showing us the immense value He places on young people who turn to Him. Just like them, we can seek Allah’s support by dedicating our youth to His service.
An Eternal Investment
Young age is a unique period of life, a time when we have the strength, creativity, and energy to accomplish great things. The question is, will we invest this precious time in fleeting pleasures or eternal rewards? This is the ultimate “vacancy” offered to every young Muslim. And it requires nothing more than willingness. The reward? Eternal satisfaction, peace, and unimaginable blessings in Jannah.
