Muslim Women are Not Oppressed- A persistent misconception about Islam is that Muslim women are oppressed and denied freedom. This belief often stems from a lack of understanding of Islam’s teachings on gender roles and women’s rights. Unfortunately, the media frequently contributes to this stereotype, showcasing select scenarios and presenting them as the standard, causing many to associate ‘Islam,’ ‘women,’ and ‘oppression’ without questioning the accuracy of this portrayal.

While the values associated with modernity and freedom are not inherently wrong, their interpretation without the guidance of faith can lead to unintended consequences. When societies were burying their daughters alive, Islam came as a force that uplifted and protected women, recognizing their full humanity and value.

In short, Islam’s teachings do not oppress women but rather liberate them from the expectations of society and place their worth solely in their character, faith, and actions. A religion that calls for kindness to all, including non-Muslims, could never be unjust to its own followers.
