A country living an hour ahead of its own sun
Most of mainland Spain sits at a longitude that would naturally place it on Greenwich time, alongside Britain and Portugal. It keeps Central European Time instead, an hour ahead — a legacy arrangement that has never been undone.
The consequence is visible every evening. Solar noon in Spain falls well after twelve on the clock, and sunset is correspondingly late: in high summer the light lasts past ten in much of the country. Spanish daily rhythms — the late meal, the late evening — follow from this rather than from anything cultural, and so does the timing of Maghrib.
For arranging a Quran lesson it means one thing above all: a schedule imported from northern Europe will not fit here, because the evening does not start when the clock says it does.

Scheduling around a late Spanish evening
Maghrib is late by the clock
In summer it can fall past ten in the evening, which puts an after-Maghrib lesson beyond most children's bedtime. Families generally move the class earlier in the day rather than later in the year.
Two schedules work better than one
A summer time and a winter time, changed deliberately, rather than tracking a sunset that moves across several hours.
The Canaries are an hour behind
The islands keep Western European Time, one hour behind the mainland. Worth stating explicitly when a slot is agreed.

Online Quran classes for families across Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville
Because every class is held live over video, there's no commute and no fixed classroom location -- students join from Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville on a schedule built around Central European Time, with the same qualified, native Arabic-speaking tutors available to every family regardless of neighbourhood.
The Spanish school year, and a very long summer
Spain's school year typically runs from early or mid-September to late June, leaving a summer break of roughly ten to eleven weeks — among the longer ones in Europe and considerably longer than anything in the northern American calendar.
Ten weeks is well past the point at which recently memorised material loosens. A student who stops entirely at the end of June does not resume in September where they left off, and the loss is easy to miss because it looks like slow progress in the autumn rather than like a gap in the summer.
The two approaches that work are opposites and both beat doing nothing. A light holding schedule — short sessions, no new material — preserves almost everything at very little cost. A deliberate intensive treats the ten weeks as the longest clear run at concentrated study in the year, which is exactly what it is.
Teaching is in English with Quranic Arabic taught directly, so a child schooled in Spanish, Catalan, Basque or Galician begins from the same place as any other beginner. Students join from Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville and across the mainland and islands on identical terms.
What families in Spain ask before enrolling
Why does the sun set so late here?
Because mainland Spain keeps Central European Time while sitting at a longitude that would naturally be on Greenwich time. The clock runs about an hour ahead of the sun.
Can we have a lesson after Maghrib in summer?
For adults, yes. For children it is usually too late — Maghrib can fall past ten in high summer. Most families move the class earlier in the day instead.
We are in the Canary Islands. Is the time different?
Yes, one hour behind the mainland. It is worth saying so explicitly when the slot is agreed.
What should we do over the long summer?
Decide in advance. Ten or eleven weeks is long enough that an unplanned summer has a visible cost by October; a light schedule or an intensive both work.
What language are lessons taught in?
English, with Quranic Arabic taught directly. Children schooled in any of Spain's languages start from the same point.
Which parts of Spain do you cover?
The mainland and the islands alike, with no difference in tutor availability. There is no catchment area.
Does daylight saving affect our slot?
Within Europe, no — the dates are shared. Against a tutor elsewhere it can drift for a week or two each spring and autumn, since the changeover dates differ.
Can lessons be arranged around Ramadan?
Yes, and most families adjust rather than pause. With Maghrib falling very late in a Spanish summer, lessons usually move earlier in the day rather than after taraweeh.
