Should We Neglect Mustahab Amaal ???

by | Sep 2, 2013

We are often neglectful in offering mustahab amaal. Our behavior towards mustahib amaal is mostly too much negligent. And most of us do not perform such amaals on the reason being mustahib, not faard. We think , as they are recommended ones, so we are free to perform them.If we do perform, we get ajar, and if we do not, their is no sin.

A point to notice over here is , if they were that much UNNECESSARY , why would ALLAH subhana hu wa tla appreciated performing them ? why is so much reward in return of performing them ? In reality , mustahabats serve as a shield from shaitaan.
A very good example would be to consider islam as a castle of five pillars and five protective boundaries.

Five Pillars of Islam:

Let the five pillars of islam be

  1. Shahada [testimony that there is no god except Allah (God) the one and only one God and Muhammad is His messenger],
  2. Salah (praying),
  3. Zakah (specific compulsory charity),
  4. Saum (fasting during Ramadan) and
  5. Hajj (pilgrimage) for those who can afford it.

Now coming towards the five boundaries of this precious castle Islam. Outer most defensive boundary happens to be of MUSTAHAB amaal. the very next barriers happens to be of SUNNAH. Moving more inwards , let us come across boundary wall of FARD. Then comes the blockade of IKHLAAS or FIDELTIY.

And then comes the inner most wall of EMAAN.Or in simple words we can say moving inwards out, first wall is of Eman, then IKHLAAS , then FARD ,then SUNNAH and then the last and outer most wall of MUSTAHAB amaal.
When we neglect mustahab or Mubaah amaal , it makes the outer most protective boundary weak, which invites shaitaan to attack on the very first boundary of castle of one’s faith. This hinders in one’s sunnahs also.

This is how one gets negligent in performing sunnah and gradually he stops performing sunnah, or he shows same negligent behavior in performing sunnah , which he was showing for mubaah or mustahhib amaal.

that is the point when shaitaan gets successful in breaking into the inner boundary of frad. And as a result , one starts skipping his obligatory (fard) amaal too. When shaitaan gets successful in conquering the barbican of fard amaal , he is in a position to conquer out castle of faith.

How a Muslim Loses the Battle with Shaitaan by Neglecting Mustahab Amaal

A Muslim’s spiritual journey is likened to a fortress, with layers of protection built to safeguard faith and devotion to Allah. The outermost layer of this fortification comprises the Mustahab Amaal (recommended acts), which serve as the initial defense against the attacks of Shaitaan. Unfortunately, many lose their battle with Shaitaan by neglecting these essential yet often underestimated actions.

When a believer disregards Mustahab Amaal, it weakens their spiritual defenses. Shaitaan does not attack the core of a person’s faith outright; instead, he begins by eroding the outermost layers of protection. By not giving importance to these recommended acts, a Muslim unknowingly paves the way for vulnerabilities that can eventually impact their obligations, such as Fard (obligatory acts) and Sunnah (the Prophet’s practices).

The Role of Mustahab Amaal in Strengthening Faith

To ensure the fort of our faith remains strong and unconquered, we must prioritize Mustahab Amaal alongside our Fard and Sunnah acts. These recommended acts, though not obligatory, play a vital role in maintaining a deep connection with Allah and serve as a barrier against spiritual decline.

When Mustahab Amaal become an integral part of a Muslim’s daily life, they nurture sincerity (Ikhlaas) and reinforce belief (Emaan). They act as the first line of defense against Shaitaan’s whispers, ensuring that the more critical layers of our faith remain intact.

Incorporating Mustahab Amaal into Daily Life

To fortify our spiritual resilience:

  1. Treat Mustahab Amaal with the Same Importance as Sunnah and Fard: Begin to view these acts not as optional, but as a means to protect your obligations.
  2. Make Them a Habit: Small, consistent actions such as additional voluntary prayers, reciting Quran, or making dhikr can create a powerful shield.
  3. Recognize Their Value: Acknowledge that these acts serve as a blessing and an opportunity to draw closer to Allah.

A Dua for Guidance and Steadfastness

May Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala bless us with Hidayah (guidance) and grant us steadfastness in fulfilling our obligations, practicing the Sunnah, and embracing the beauty of Mustahab Amaal. May He strengthen our faith and protect us from the whispers of Shaitaan. Ameen!

By prioritizing these acts, we reinforce our spiritual fort, ensuring that our connection with Allah remains firm and unyielding. Remember, the battle with Shaitaan is real, and it begins with the seemingly small choices we make every day
