Why Do Muslims Read Quran?

The Quran, revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) over 1400 years ago, is the holy book of Islam. It is believed to be the word of Allah (God) as conveyed to humanity through the Angel Gabriel. The Quran serves as a comprehensive guide, encompassing matters of faith, morality, social conduct, and personal development.
  • Seeking Guidance and Divine Revelation

Muslims read the Quran to seek guidance and receive divine revelation. The Quran provides instructions and principles to navigate the complexities of life, addressing various aspects of human existence. By reading the Quran, Muslims find solace in knowing that Allah has provided a roadmap for them to follow, offering guidance and solutions to life’s challenges.
  • Deepening Spiritual Connection

Reading the Quran deepens the spiritual connection between Muslims and Allah. Through its verses, Muslims find inspiration, develop a profound sense of awe and reverence, and experience a closeness to the divine. The Quran serves as a means of communication with Allah, allowing Muslims to strengthen their faith and cultivate a deeper understanding of their purpose in life.
  • Gaining Knowledge and Understanding

The Quran is a rich source of knowledge and wisdom. Muslims read the Quran to gain knowledge about the teachings of Islam, the history of prophets, and the stories of previous civilizations. It provides insights into the creation of the universe, the nature of human beings, and the principles that govern human conduct. Reading the Quran fosters intellectual growth and a greater understanding of the world and one’s place in it.
  • Embracing Moral and Ethical Values

The Quran is a moral compass for Muslims, guiding them to lead virtuous and ethical lives. Its teachings emphasize the importance of honesty, kindness, justice, compassion, humility, and other noble traits. By reading the Quran, Muslims internalize these values and strive to manifest them in their interactions with others, contributing to a just and harmonious society.
  • Finding Comfort and Solace

In times of distress, Muslims turn to the Quran for comfort and solace. Its verses offer words of encouragement, hope, and healing. The Quran reminds Muslims of Allah’s mercy, love, and support, providing reassurance during challenging times. Reading the Quran allows individuals to find solace in the divine presence and seek solace from the difficulties of life.

Story of an Old American Muslim

An old American Muslim lived in eastern Kentucky with his young grandson. Each morning Grandpa was up early sitting at the kitchen table reading his QuranHis grandson wanted to be just like him and tried to imitate him in every way he could.  One day the grandson asked, “Grandpa! I try to read Quran just like you but I don’t understand it. What good does reading the Qur’an do to me?”  The Grandfather quietly turned from putting coal in the stove and replied, “Take this coal basket down to the river and bring me back a basket of water.”  The boy did as he was told, but all the water leaked out before he got back to the house. The grandfather laughed and said, “You’ll have to move a little faster next time,” and sent him back to the river with the basket to try again. This time the boy ran faster, but again the basket was empty before he returned home. Out of breath, he told his grandfather that it was impossible to carry water in a basket, and he went to get a bucket instead.

Read Quran changes Everything:

The old man said, “I don’t want a bucket of water; I want a basket of water. You’re just not trying hard enough,” and he went out the door to watch the boy try again.  At this point, the boy knew it was impossible, but he wanted to show his grandfather that even if he ran as fast as he could, the water would leak out before he got back to the house. The boy again dipped the basket into the river and ran hard, but when he reached his grandfather the basket was again empty. Out of breath, he said, “See Grandpa, it’s useless!”  “So you think it is useless?” The old man said, “Look at the basket.”  The boy looked at the basket and for the first time realized that the basket was different. It had been transformed from a dirty old coal basket and was now clean, inside and out.  “Son, that’s what happens when you read the Qur’an. You might not understand or remember everything, but when you read it, you will be changed, inside and out. That is the work of Allah in our lives.”  Read Quran!!!! No matter what.
