Supplication has high power in it. Today let’s memorize the Prophetic prayers to protect ourselves and our families from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Supplication Definition

Supplication is the action of asking or begging for something earnestly or humbly.

While the state authorities are cancelling lockdown and gradually reopening the countries, families still fear getting out publicly with their children. The Corona Virus COVID-19 pandemic has made us anxious about our loved ones, especially those vulnerable. Though the past few months have been -overwhelming on various levels, we are still required to take our safety precautions.

“We will certainly test you with some fear and hunger and some loss of possessions, lives, and crops. But give good news to the steadfast.

Those who, when a calamity afflicts them, say, “To God, we belong, and to Him, we will return.” (2:156-157)

The viral COVID-19 has come to remind us of how weak we are. After all the progress and power humans have gone through, a microscopic cell has turned our lives upside-down.

And what better time there is to turn our hearts back to Allah than now? He’s the one who promised to respond to our call upon Him.

Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you” (Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

Luckily, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught us Dua and supplication to protect us during the pandemic and defend us against any harm.

Supplication for protection from illness and disease

This supplication is for protection from illness carries an important reminder that our refuge is always in Allah (SWT):

 Allah humma inni a’udhu bika minal-barasi, wal-jununi, wal-judhaami, wa min sayyi’il-asqaami

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, insanity, elephantiasis, and the worst of diseases.”

[Abu Dawud]

This dua for protection from illness should be our constant prayer at this time – and it carries an important reminder that our refuge is always in Allah (SWT):

Allah humma inni a’udhu bika minal-barasi, wal-jununi, wal-judhaami, wa min sayyi’il-asqaami

“O Allah, I seek refuge in You from leprosy, insanity, elephantiasis, and the worst of diseases.”

Supplication for leaving the house

While countries are starting to go back to normal during stage 3, and schools and businesses are resuming, we feel anxious whenever we go out. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, “Whoever says upon leaving his house:

Bismillaahi, tawakkaltu ‘alallaahi, wa laa hawla wa laa quwwata illaa billaah

“In the Name of Allah, I have trusted Allah; there is no might and no power except by Allah.”

He will say: ‘You are guided, defended and protected.’

The devil will go far away from him.”

[Abu Dawud]

Supplication for protection against calamities

This Prophetic Supplication for protection against calamities is a powerful supplication to Allah (SWT) to help and save us from every crisis, however unexpected:

“O Allah protect me from my front, behind me, from my right and my left, and above me, and I seek refuge in Your Magnificence from being taken unaware from beneath me.”

[Ibn Majah]

Supplication for sickness

It is narrated that Aisha (PBUH) said that when anyone among them had an illness, the Prophet (ﷺ) used to rub the area of the pain and recite the following Supplication for protection:

 Allah humma Rabban-Naas, adhhibil-ba’s, washfi antash-Shaafi laa shifaa’a illaa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqamaa

“O Allah, Lord of humanity, do away with my suffering. Heal (me) as You are the only Healer, and there is no cure except that of Yours, it is that which leaves no ailment behind.”

[Bukhari]

When One is sick, It is advisable to recite Surah al-Fātihah seven times and blow on the patient. It was the habit of the beloved Messenger (SAW) to recite the following dua when visiting the sick:

Allaahumma rabbin naas, adh’hibil ba’s, ishfihi antash shaafi, laa shifaa’a illaa shifaauk, shifaa’an laa yughaadiru saqamaa

Oh, Allah, the Lord of the people! Remove the trouble and heal him (i.e. the sick person), for You are the Healer. No healing is of any avail but Yours; healing that will leave behind no ailment.

Supplication for fear and anxiety

It is reasonable to feel anxious, despair, or down during these challenging times. Say the following dua:

Allah hummak-fineeyhim bi maa shi’ta

“O Allah, suffice (i.e. protect) me against them however You wish.”

[Muslim]

Allah reminds us in the Quran:

Those who believe and whose hearts find comfort in the remembrance of Allah. Indeed in the remembrance of Allah, do hearts find comfort.

(Surah Ar-Ra’d, 13:28)

Asma’ Binti’ Umais r.a narrated that “Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said to me: Shall I not teach you some words to say when in distress?

“Allah, Allah, my Lord, I do not associate anything with Him.”

(Sunan Abi Daud)

When Prophet Yusuf (AS) is stranded in a whale’s stomach, isolated from even the slightest glance of light and as though the way out seems impossible, Prophet Yunus a.s. placed his hope and support upon Allah and recited the following prayers:

“There is no god but You, holy, are You! Indeed, I have been of the wrongdoers.”

(Surah Al Anbiya, 21:87)

Supplication for protection of family from every evil

The Prophet (ﷺ) used to say the following dua for the protection of Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (His grandsons), this is a beautiful dua for the protection of family members, especially our beloved children:

“I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from every evil that has been created.”

[Muslim]

This Dua shows you are remembering Allah before beginning any task. It delivers protection and wards off the Shaytan at eating, intercourse, slaughtering animals for food etc.

And say, “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils,
